Essential Oil & Scalp Care, Part 2
In our previous blog, we began discussing specific essential oils and the benefit they provide to scalp care. While not entirely conclusive, we wanted to cover a few more of the impressive essential oils used in our scalp care products. If you haven’t already checked out Part 1, you may do so before or after reading on here!
More Beneficial Essential Oils for Scalp Care
This essential oil contains known anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which makes it especially great for anyone suffering with eczema or dandruff, even when used alone. It does however, have a rather tough odor, making it an ideal component in a blended and scented scalp care product, such as hydrating shampoo or moisturizing serum. Since dry scalp is known to be a major proponent for hair loss, it could be said that patchouli oil helps with hair loss as well.
In addition to being one of the offerings from the Three Kings in Christian mythology, myrrh also has a host of benefits. Myrrh relaxation properties, skin care benefits, and rich aromatic and food flavoring power, plus it has even been shown to have a host of real health benefits, such as anticarcinogenic, antiparasitic, antibacterial, and and antifungal properties. Plus, it has been used as a calming incense for millennia, making myrrh one of the most obviously beneficial essential oils. When added to a scalp care routine or product, it directly combats dry hair and scalp issues.
In just about every household cache of essential oils, rosemary will likely be found. In opposition to many essential oils we have discussed, rosemary works to calm sebum production to prevent hair from becoming oily. It is especially useful for those that have already stimulated their sebum production or anyone suffering from especially oily hair. It also has direct benefits to skin, making it a natural moisturizer for the skin on your scalp, which helps to prevent dry scalp.
The oil extracted from thyme has very different properties from its herbal seasoning counterpart; as an essential oil, thyme is an especially potent microbial, which helps to fight off germs and harmful bacteria seeking residence on the scalp. It is known to penetrate deep into the scalp, stimulating hair follicles and localized blood flow, effectively accelerating hair growth; it is for this reason that thyme oil should always be used in moderation or conjunction with a more calming oil.
